I'd rather have a Porsche than a Toyota. Just sayin.

Considering the Toyota logo at the top right, I'd say Toyota 86 or GT 86.

I think it is probably the FRS/GT86 but the bit over the front wheel too boxy/exaggerated to be exactly like the real thing

Well, there hasn't been a break in the 911 evolutionary chain, so I'd say Porsche is winning the whole "survival of the fittest" thing.

The Porsche would be a better driving experience, also by far the better design.

Technically it would be a "GT-86", so yeah FR-S/BRZ

Porsche has nothing to worry about from Toyota.

Kinja'd!!!

Toyota... not so much. And skipping from the 2000GT, to the JZA80 Supra, skipping all the previous Celica/Supras, and including GT-86 which is not a Celica or Supra lineage, but tries to harken to an economy car Corolla..

That is picking and choosing, and not evolution. The name-plates aren't the same. The platforms aren't the same. Not all of them have the same type of engine.

And Toyota has CANCELLED almost every performance car they have ever offered at one time or another, which is the antithesis of evolving a car model for more than 50 years.

Celica... FWD in the 80s, cancelled in the 2000s.

MR2... cancelled after the W30 failed to be salable.

Supra... split from Celica, cancelled after the JZA80, Soarer cancelled also, Lexus SC cancelled also... and Toyota has failed to offer an interesting RWD coupe for years before getting Subaru to build them a RWD coupe, instead of Subaru building themselves an AWD coupe.

There are toyotas that I like. I would like to own an A70 Mark III Supra. I would like to own an SW20/21 MR2 coupe, or maybe an AW11.

But Toyota isn't schooling Porsche on anything, and the only time they tried to, it cut costs to the point of tarnishing Porsche's reliability, with the M96 engine issues.

But evolution doesn't look like a chain, it has dead ends and bifurcations. So, if the sports car is a specie.

Kinja'd!!!

You can consider the years when Toyoda had no sports car, half a dead end and half an evolutionary link that needed more time to evolve, than everyone expected(old SC).

Not really, I would take a Cayman over a gt86/brz/FRS any day of the week.. Not even a question. A used Cayman can be had around the price of a new BRZ. You get a lot more car, and a lot more power. Also, here's a pretty interesting article. http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthr…

I love the BRZ/FRS, but they are low on my list of ~$30k cars.

Why isn't there something like this for Nissan S chassis?

This. The Porsche equivalent would be something like 356, 911, Carrera GT, 918. Plus, if you actually look at real pictures of these Toyotas, they look nothing alike. Hell, the only recognizable car in there is the Supra, and only because of that wing.

I second this. For $25,000, you can get an ultra-clean ZR-1 with between 375 and 405 HP and, due to chassis deficiencies versus newer generations, it will be just as fun at 35 MPH as a BR-Z while also being capable of pushing and handling well past 160 MPH. It will also get almost identical fuel economy to the Toyobaru in practise.

The BR-Z and FR-S just aren't good buys under most circumstances.

What is the car at the very top? I'm digging the rear fenders. Doesn't look like an Z I know.

I also find it funny how I mistook the Z31 for a C4 Corvette at first. Damn, that's uncanny.

Edited my post. Just realized they were all Z-cars.

The way that silhouette is drawn, for the 370, is almost misleading. It implies that there is some definition at the location of the trunk shutline when there isn't any on the actual car; it's just a seam. I probably would've recognized it otherwise.

So, offering sports cars every once in a while, that mostly don't hold a candle to Porsche, is better? Porsche has been offering amazing cars for over 50 years, and has racing success in almost every series imaginable, while also often having iconic supercars that are technological and performance legends (907, 959, Carrera GT, 918). Toyota offers some good sports cars every once in a while, but they often offer no real sports car, and frankly they are nowhere near Porsche.
